Diabetes Causes & Treatment

Diabetes:

Diabetes refers to a group of diseases that affect the way your body uses blood sugar (glucose). Glucose is important for your health because it is an important source of energy for the cells that make up your muscles and tissues. And it is a great source of the facial expressions of your mind.

The main cause of diabetes varies by type. However, no matter what type of diabetes you have, it can lead to high blood sugar. If there is much sugar in your blood it can be a cause of health problems to a great extent. Untreated blood sugar can damage the nerves, eyes, kidneys, and other organs.

Types of diabetes:

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. The immune system attacks and destroys pancreatic cells, where insulin is produced. It is unclear what caused the attack. About 15 percent of people with diabetes have this type.

Diabetes of type 2 occurs when your body becomes resistant to insulin and there is a build-up of sugar in your blood.

Diabetes occurs when your blood sugar is higher than normal but not too high for type 2 diabetes.

Pregnancy diabetes is high in the blood during pregnancy. The insulin-producing hormone produced by the placenta causes this type of diabetes.

A rare condition called diabetes insipidus is not related to diabetes, although it has the same name. A different situation in which your kidneys remove excess fluid from your body.

What is endocrinology?

It deals with the different types of diseases related to hormones such as diabetes which is caused due to insulin hormone sensitivity.

Mostly diabetes is not considered a disease it is a symptom, which can be treated with certain regulations in daily lifestyle which can save us from some dangerous complications?

PCOS can also be treated under endocrinology. Osteoporosis falls under endocrinology. Hypothyroidism also falls under this branch. In short, the entire hormone-related problems fall under endocrinology.

Why diabetes is getting so common in Pakistan?

Why diabetes is getting so common in Pakistan and is spreading like an epidemic, by the year 2025 it will increase up to 6 to 7 percent. The most common form which is seen in young people is diabetes type 2 which is very alarming because that was very rare a few years back.

Moreover, diabetes is a genetic transfer from generation to generation. In pregnant women if there is some sort of mutation in beta cells can lead to gestational diabetes. But this type lasts till the gestational period and vanishes afterward but such women are more vulnerable to diabetes when they are in their late thirties or forties.

Insulin Resistance

Almost 90 percent of people in Pakistan have insulin resistance. That means if insulin is produced in the body normally or the rate of insulin production is good but there is resistance in its utilization.

Because of which sugar level increases and you become diabetic. It was thought before that if fasting sugar and after-meal sugar is normal then you are not diabetic but now it is clarified that even if your sugar level is normal but your BMI is more than 35 you are getting more and more vulnerable to diabetes.

If a male has a BMI of more than 35 and a female has more than 34 then it is alarming. There is one more misconception related to eating sugar that eating sugar can cause diabetes but this is not the fact. Sugar is dangerous for diabetic patients and elevates their sugar levels. So it is prohibited for diabetic patients.

Does insulin make you gain weight?

Most patients who are diabetic and are on insulin complain that they are gaining weight. So insulin can make you gain weight. There are two types of insulin analog and non-analog insulin.

Non-analog insulin can make you gain weight. Because it is an anabolic hormone that interacts and alters metabolism can cause obesity. That doesn’t mean that you should stop insulin usage.

Metformin which is a sensitizer most commonly used as Glucophage cam sensitize glucose and can help in weight reduction. But there are also weight neutral insulin that can not alter your weight or cannot make you gain weight. Non-weight neutral insulin of 0.6 units can increase weight up to 0.1 kg.

Is diabetes reversible?

No diabetes is not reversible. But there is analog insulin being generated which can be a beneficial external aid. Which is not making a person gain weight?

Some patients think that their three-month test shows 6.5 percent but their fasting and meal sugar are normal so they have no worries. But their situation is no different than other patients. They have to ultimately move towards insulin usage. Infants can also have diabetes type 1 in which beta cells are not being produced.

Hence it is genetic. Mostly symptoms include overweight infants, steadily losing weight, looks exhausted and toxic. So it is very useful to get a timely diagnosis of the child.

Prevention:

Type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented. However, the same healthy lifestyle choices that help treat prediabetes, type 2 diabetes and gestational diabetes can also help prevent it:

Eat a healthy diet. Choose foods that are low in fat and calories and have high fiber. Focus on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Strive for variety to prevent boredom.

Get plenty of physical activity. Schedule 30 minutes of exercise a day. Take a daily trip. Ride your bike. Pumpkin swimming. If you are unable to get into a long workout, divide it into smaller sessions that are distributed throughout the day.

Lose weight. If you are overweight, losing 7 percent of your body weight – for example, 14 pounds (6.4 kilograms) if you weigh 200 pounds (90.7 kilograms) – can reduce your risk of diabetes.

Do not try to lose weight during pregnancy, however. Talk to your doctor about how healthy you can gain weight during pregnancy.

To keep your weight healthy, focus on endless changes in your eating and exercise habits. Encourage yourself by remembering the benefits of weight loss, such as a healthy heart, more energy, and improved self-esteem.

Sometimes medicine and you can choose. Oral drugs such as metformin (Glucophage, Glumetza, etc.) can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes – but choosing a healthy lifestyle remains important. Get your blood sugar tested at least once a year to see if you have ever had type 2 diabetes.

Suggestions:

Don’t panic if you are having diabetes but take your lifestyle seriously and get rid of all types of unhealthy foods. If you are having diabetes take meals in accordance that breakfast should be king, lunch should be normal and dinner should be least. If you are at insulin two snacks should be added in between meals.

The day you find out that you are diabetic means your complications have been started almost five years back so despite going towards non medicated treatments opt analog insulin.
